Blue Heaven (video)

Produced for the Outremer project, dedicated to the exotic historical representation of the Foreign Legion and the French Navy, the video presents six Polynesian women on separate screens. In this Outremer, for which the photographer went to the South of France, Djibouti and New Caledonia, there is a land that he has taken care to leave out of his itinerary: Tahiti, the Terra Mater, allegory of elsewhere. He chose not to go there, and visited instead the Polynesian dancers established on the continent of Europe, in Toulon, France. He films them, one by one, and slows down their movements. The women face each other, with necklaces of flowers and a smiling look, their mysterious impassibility intact. The hypnotic dance of the wahines evokes the song of the sirens that constantly urges sailors to set sail again. And equally expresses the photographer’s tenacious wish to continue his quest, to find the elsewhere, towards the other.
